AHEAD Operation’s Development Oriented Research (DOR) Project:
Combined effects of heat and soil water stress on agronomy and physiology of selected field,
horticultural and plantation crops of Sri Lanka
Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka
Applications are invited from qualified graduates for recruiting as Research Assistants for the aforesaid project. The positions will be filled on contract-basis, initially for a period of six months and may be renewed for further six months based on performance up to a maximum period of two years during which they should pursue a Master of Philosophy degree.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
B.Sc. degree in Agriculture or any other related discipline (the degree certificate with academic transcript or a provisional certificate should be made available for a selection interview)
Experience in handling advanced instruments used in Plant Ecophysiology will be a decisive added advantage
Ability to carry out multiple tasks effectively and efficiently
Ability to interact with senior academic and administrative staff in the university
Ability to function effectively in a team environment inspiring trust and cooperation of other team members
Ability to meet multiple deadlines
Strong communication, negotiating skills and good interpersonal relations
Excellent computer literacy
Conversant in scientific and business English
Research Assistants in this project will be paid a monthly remuneration of 55,000 Rs and applicable ETF and EPF. The project will cover travelling and accommodation expenses during research trips outside the university.

Selected candidates will be required to sign a contract agreement with Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. Research Assistants are required to pursue a M.Phil. degree programme during the project period. Applicants who have already registered for a M.Sc. degree may be considered if they are willing to upgrade the degree to a M.Phil. and respective universities allow the candidates to do so. The candidates who are currently employed at a university, state/private sector department/institute, should submit his/her application through the respective head of university/department/institute.
METHOD OF SELECTION:
Suitably qualified applicants will be short-listed, and only short-listed applicants will be called for an interview. The final selection decision will be taken by the Project Team. The AHEAD Operation reserve the right to shortlist the candidates. Applications which do not meet the requirements, incomplete applications and applications which reach after the closing date will be rejected without further consideration.
